Lets Talk Music!
Lauren Denny from Sound Escape Music Therapy and Speech Pathologist Colleague, have joined together to provide really individualised and specific groups to children and adults of all ages. We are really excited because together we will be providing a really functional and creative space for children and adults to improve their communication skills, build relationships with others and work on social skills all within an environment that doesn’t feel like therapy or work. We aim to make these groups really fun so that everyone can come away with better self-esteem and motivation to continue to improve.
Each group is individually put together based on the client’s goals as well as each individuals’ needs. Before groups are assigned everyone will have completed either individual sessions or an intake session(s) to assess goals, build trust and rapport and we can therefore create a suitable group space for each individual.
More specifically the groups aim to;
- Embed music as the tool to facilitate communication Increase cognitive,sensor i-motor and psycho-social functioning
- Use peer interaction to develop skills alongside clinician lead practice
- Develop social skills Foster meaningful relationships Build self esteem
- Explore creative outlets and expression through active music making, movement, body awareness and sensory tools
- Foster independent skills that can transfer into daily life Practice AAC in a group setting (if applicable)
- Provide information for behaviour support programs and plans when requested
- Explore and develop skills for employment (if applicable)
The groups will run on a Friday or Saturday and will run fortnightly in school terms. Group sizes will be limited to a maximum of 7 children, some groups will be smaller based on the goals. Adult group sizes will be limited to a maximum of 10. Please get in touch if further information is required.
